It seems like very well paid jobs are on hold for the time being apart from those that deal in anything related to technology. That’s jobs in the technical side of technology, and not the manufacturing, which is often low paid factory work found mainly in developing countries. The bad news is that even if you are experienced technician in IT, user support of IT, or anything related to the design and creation of technology products, very few employers will want you if you are middle-aged, that is to say over 40.

We love TECH!
The advice to middle-aged guys looking for work these days is to forget working for ‘the man’ and go it alone. Entrepreneurship is on the up with men in this age group, and by all accounts they’re doing a pretty good job of it. So popular is it becoming that many governments have made finance available for new start-ups.
The other upside for the over 40’s going it alone in a market that seems to favour youth employment, is that you really don’t need to worry about having any kind of formal education to get in. It’s been proved time and time again that some of the wealthiest self-made millionaires around the world have very few, if any at all, educational qualifications, yet despite it all they excel in their ventures.
